Manhunt Intensifies for Convicted Murderer Danelo Cavalcante on the Run in Pennsylvania Authorities Close Schools

Authorities in Pennsylvania have closed several schools as they intensify the search for Danelo Cavalcante, a 34-year-old Brazilian national and convicted murderer who escaped from prison on August 31st. Cavalcante had recently been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend, causing shock and mourning in the community.

Law enforcement is working relentlessly to capture Cavalcante, with the US Marshals Service offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture. His dramatic escape involved climbing to the roof of Chester County Prison on a Thursday morning.

Initially, the search focused on the densely forested area within a two-mile radius of the prison in West Chester, presenting significant challenges due to the rugged terrain. Recent developments expanded the search area after surveillance cameras captured Cavalcante at Longwood Gardens on Monday night.

Cavalcante’s tactics involve moving under the cover of darkness and seeking refuge during the day in areas with thick underbrush. Officers have had to navigate through this challenging environment by hand, and potential hiding spots, like sheds, complicate the search.

Authorities are urging residents in the area to remain vigilant, secure their homes, and lock their windows. They’re employing thermal imaging technology, drones, and dogs in their relentless pursuit. A federal arrest warrant has also been obtained to prevent him from fleeing across state lines.

In a heartfelt attempt to reach Cavalcante, authorities have been using helicopters and patrol cars to broadcast an emotional audio message recorded by his mother in Brazil, pleading for his surrender.

Cavalcante’s original conviction stemmed from the tragic murder of his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, in April 2021, witnessed by her two small children. He was apprehended shortly after the murder when he fled to Virginia, and Brandao had threatened to expose his involvement in a 2017 murder in Brazil to the police.

The community remains on edge, hoping for a swift resolution to this intense manhunt, while law enforcement remains dedicated to bringing him to justice.
