Elon Musk is said to be on the verge of replacing Twitter’s iconic bird logo. According to recent reports, tech tycoon Elon Musk publicly announced his intentions to retire Twitter’s revered bird emblem. Musk made this revelation in a tweet on Sunday, expressing his desire to gradually phase out not only the logo but also any bird-related references in the brand.
The tweet served as the official announcement, with Musk hinting that the changeover would occur if a strong “X” logo design was submitted and approved. Upon acceptance, this transformation would take effect globally immediately.
As a potential substitute, the billionaire businessman shared an image of a flashing “X.” During a Twitter Spaces audio discussion, Elon Musk was asked about the decision to replace the logo, to which he responded with a resolute “Yes,” underscoring that the change was long overdue.
Since taking control of Twitter in October, Musk has instigated significant directional changes. One notable alteration was the company’s renaming to X Corp, reflecting Elon Musk’s ambition to develop a potent “super app” akin to China’s WeChat.
Despite the anticipated logo change generating interest and speculation among users, the corporation has not issued an official statement in response to the announcement.
However, this transformation is just one of several that Musk’s leadership has brought about at Twitter. The name change to X Corp symbolizes the company’s alignment with Elon Musk’s goal of creating a super-inclusive app that can thrive in China, similar to WeChat.
Musk’s actions have faced criticism from users and marketing experts, particularly the implementation of daily tweet limitations for different accounts. Unintentionally, these restrictions facilitated the rapid growth of a competing service, Threads, owned by Meta, attracting over 100 million sign-ups within five days of its launch.
Furthermore, Twitter has encountered legal challenges, including a recent lawsuit claiming that the company owes former employees at least $500 million in severance pay. To reduce costs, the company has significantly downsized its workforce since Musk took over.
The blue bird logo, synonymous with Twitter, is the brand’s most identifiable asset, and the company has taken considerable efforts to safeguard its reputation. In April of this year, the emblem was temporarily replaced with the Shiba Inu dog from Dogecoin, significantly impacting the meme coin’s market value.
